WATERTOWN — With Popcorn N More no more, Neighbors of Watertown Inc. has purchased a vacant commercial building on Court Street that sits next to the Brighton Apartments.
Neighbors, the local housing and redevelopment agency, acquired 118 Court St. from former owner JZZY Holdings Inc., for $120,000.
Neighbors Executive Director Gary C. Beasley said his agency has no specific plans for the two-story building that most recently housed the now-defunct Popcorn N More.
However, Neighbors needed the building to resolve some complicated easement issues that were affecting the agency’s plans to redevelop Empsall Plaza, 30,000 square feet of ground-floor space that a department store once occupied and is part of the Brighton Apartments building.
Neighbors plans to convert that into commercial space and the floor above into apartments.
Waiting to hear about some state funding, Mr. Beasley said he hopes the project begins this summer and can be completed by the end of the year.
