Seven months from now, Watertown will have a new housing complex for the homeless.

On Monday, ground was broken for the $2.1 million Stone Street Apartments.

Neighbors of Watertown is converting the former Social Security Administration building and a former music store into 13 transitional living apartments.

"Sometimes some of our residents need a leg up to independent living and this will provide that needed service," said Gary Beasley of Neighbors of Watertown.

Several agencies, including the Children's Home of Jefferson County, plan to refer clients to the new facility.

It's scheduled for completion May 30.
